Program

Day 1: Tbilisi Stepantsminda – 495m 1750m – 250km

  • Arrival in Tbilisi
  • Departure along the Georgian Military Road (the main route crossing the Caucasus and connecting Tbilisi with Russia) in the direction of Kazbegi (now Stepantsminda; 1740 m above sea level); on the way a stop at the Zhinvali artificial water reservoir and visiting the picturesquely situated Ananuri fortress from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries
  • Drive towards the winter resort of Gudauri and a stop at a beautiful vantage point in front of the Jvari Pass (2379 m above sea level)
  • Accommodation in guesthouse, Stepantsminda, free time
  • Preparation for the expedition: meeting with guides, repacking backpacks, checking the equipment and, if necessary, supplementing the deficiencies at the place (e.g. purchase of gas cylinders, rental of equipment)
  • Welcome dinner, overnight stay in guesthouse

Day 2: Gergeti Meteo  – 2150mnpm ↗ 3650mnpm – 14km 

  • Early breakfast in guesthouse
  • Jeep ride to one of the most beautifully situated monasteries in Georgia – Gergeti Holy Trinity, which lies at an altitude of 2200 m above sea level, at the foot of Mount Kazbek (5033 m above sea level)
  • Loading luggage onto the horses, which will take them to the meteo station
  • Trekking with light backpacks through the Gergeti Glacier to the weather station – Betlemi Hut at an altitude of 3650 m (a distance of 14 km to cover)
  • Dinner and overnight in meteo station

Option nr 2 – Day 2/3:  Gergeti Sabertse – 2150mnpm ↗ 3015mnpm – 7km / Sabertse – Meteo 3015 ↗ 3650mnpm – 7km 

  • It is possible to break this approach for 2 days with accommodation in tents near the Altihut shelter (or in the Altihut shelter – additionally payable). In the case of accommodation in tents, you must bring equipment and food. Horses will transport all equipment directly to meteo station

Day 3/4: Meteo –3650mnpm ↗ ~4000mnpm ↘ 3650mnpm – 3km

  • Breakfast
  • Acclimatization – trekking at an altitude of approximately 4,000 m
  • practical exercises: using an ice axe, using crampons, belaying on a rope, etc
  • Return to meteo station, dinner and overnight

Day 4/5: Meteo Kazbek Summit METEO –  3650mnpm ↗ 5054mnpm ↘ 3650mnpm – 15km

These days are intended for additional acclimatization, possible waiting out of unfavorable weather conditions and the summit attack 

  • Wake up and light breakfast at approx. 2 am
  • Start attacking the summit around 3-4 am
  • Ascent to the summit (around 10 o’clock in good weather conditions)
  • Return to the weather station (distance traveled: 15 km)
  • Dinner and overnight

Day 6: Meteo Gergeti – 3650mnpm ↘ 2150mnpm – 14km

  • Breakfast
  • Closing camps
  • Descent to the Gergeti Holy Trinity church and drive by jeeps to Stepantsminda
  • Dinner in the form of a traditional Georgian feast – supra, full of local specialties, chacha and homemade wine, and accommodation in guesthouse

Day 7: Stepantsminda Tbilisi – 1750m above sea level 400m above sea level – 250km

  • Breakfast at the guesthouse
  • Return to Tbilisi
  • Evening walk in the old town
  • Optional visit to the sulfur baths
  • Dinner and overnight in the hotel

Day 8: Transfer to the airport

  • Transfer to the airport

Information

The Kazbek expedition program may change in the event of weather changes. Our experienced guides, who have several dozen ascents to the top, will take care of the safety of the group. They will also decide whether to stop the attack in the event of deteriorating weather. We do not guarantee reaching the summit, but we guarantee that we will do everything possible to ensure the safety of participants.

 

Minimum number of participants – 3 people.All participants are required to purchase individual insurance for extreme sports (we have a contact to the agency in Poland for appropriate insurance). All participants are required to inform about chronic or other diseases that may affect the course of the expedition. Due to the chance of bad weather conditions in the mountains, it is possible to extend the mountain action by additional days.

 

It is also possible to extend the trip after the mountain action in order to organize optional trips to other regions of Georgia. We can also take care of and organize a stay for people or part of a group that does not participate in a mountain expedition – accommodation, trips to neighboring regions. Hiking equipment, ice axes, crampons, helmets, tents, gas cylinders and burners are available for rent on site. Some clothing or unnecessary equipment can be left with us in the deposit in Stepantsminda.
