Expedition overview

DAY 1: TBILISI – GOMBORI PASS – ALAVERDI – ABANO – TUSHETI – OMALO

  • Tour starts at 06:00 in the morning, meeting point by car
  • Departure from Tbilisi via Gombori Pass (1620m)
  • Stop at Alaverdi Cathedral
  • After Lechuri village, enter Stori gorge and begin Tusheti road
  • Cross Abano Pass (2826m)
  • Visit Omalo village and the visitor center
  • Learn about Tusheti’s history and culture
  • Check-in at family guesthouse
  • Visit Keselo towers in Omalo (UNESCO)
  • Dinner with traditional Georgian and Tushetian dishes

 

 

DAY 2: OMALO – DARTLO – DIKLO – DOCHU – TUSHETI – BOCHORNA 

  • Breakfast at the guesthouse
  • Visit Dartlo, Kvavlo, Diklo, Bochorna, Dochu, Jvarboseli
  • See old courtroom where female judges served
  • Explore Tusheti towers (UNESCO), restored in Dartlo
  • Visit Bochorna – highest populated village in Europe (2345m)
  • Lunch in nature
  • Stay until evening, return to guesthouse
  • Dinner at guesthouse

 

 

 

DAY 3: BOCHORNA – SHENAKO – DIKLO – TBILISI

  • Breakfast at guesthouse
  • Visit Shenako, Diklo, Old Diklo
  • See Diklo Castle and St. George Church in Shenako (19th c.)
  • Return to Tbilisi with lunch stop on the way
  • Pass waterfalls, ravines, small villages
  • Possible to see wild animals and rare birds

  • Pack both summer and warm clothes hot during day, cold in evenings
