Program

Day 0:

  • arrival in Tbilisi airport late evening hours

Day 1: TBILISI STEPANTSMINDA – 495m asml ↗ 1750m asml – 250km

  • arrival in Tbilisi
  • early breakfast in the city center
  • departure northward via the Georgian Military Road (the main route crossing the Caucasus range and connecting Tbilisi with Russia) to the town of Kazbegi (currently Stepantsminda; 1740 m above sea level)
  • along the way, stop at the artificial reservoir Zhinvali and visit the picturesque Ananuri fortress from the late 16th and early 17th centuries
  • drive towards the winter resort of Gudauri and stop at the beautiful viewpoint before the Cross Pass (2379 m above sea level)
  • accommodation in an agritourism farm in Kazbegi, free time
  • expedition preparation: meeting with guides, repacking backpacks, checking equipment, and possibly purchasing any necessary items on site (e.g., buying gas cylinders, renting equipment)
  • welcome dinner, overnight stay in a guesthouse

Day 2: GERGETI METEO – 2150m asml ↗ 3650m asml – 14km

  • early breakfast at the guesthouse farm
  • jeep ride to one of the most beautifully located monasteries in Georgia – Tsminda Sameba, which lies at an altitude of 2170 m above sea level at the foot of Mount Kazbek (5033 m above sea level)
  • loading luggage onto horses, which will transport them to the weather station
  • trekking with light backpacks through the Gergeti Glacier to the weather station – Betlemi Hut at an altitude of 3650 m (distance to cover 14 km)
  • dinner, overnight stay at the weather station

Day 3: METEO –3650m asml ↗ ~4000m above sea level ↘ 3650m asml – 3km

  • breakfast
  • acclimatization – trekking at an altitude of about 4000 m
  • practical exercises: using an ice axe, moving on crampons, rope securing, etc.
  • return to the weather station, dinner, and overnight stay

Day 4/5: METEO KAZBEK SUMMIT METEO – 3650m asml ↗ 5054m asml ↘ 3650m asml – 15km

  • these days are dedicated to additional acclimatization, waiting out unfavorable weather conditions, and the summit attempt.
  • wake-up and light breakfast around 2:00 in the morning
  • start of the summit attempt around 3-4 AM
  • summit ascent (expected around 10 AM under good weather conditions)
  • return to the weather station (distance covered: 15 km)
  • dinner and overnight stay

Day 6: METEO GERGETI – Stepantsminda 3650m asml ↘ 2150m asml – 14km

  • breakfast
  • breaking camp
  • descent to the Tsminda Sameba monastery (Gergeti) and jeep ride to Kazbegi
  • festive dinner in the form of a traditional Georgian feast – supra, full of local specialties, toasts, homemade wine, and overnight stay in an guesthouse farm

Day 7: Stepantsminda TBILISI – 1750m asml ↘ 400m asml – 250km

  • breakfast at the guesthouse farm
  • return to Tbilisi
  • farewell dinner, overnight stay in a hotel

Day 8: Transfer to the airport

  • transfer to the airport

Information

Due to the risk of bad weather conditions in the mountains, it is possible to extend the mountain activity by additional days.

 

It is also possible to extend the trip in order to organize optional trips to other regions of Georgia. we can also take care of and organize a stay for people or part of a group that does not take part in a mountain expedition – accommodation, trips to neighboring regions.

Hiking equipment, ice axes, crampons, helmets, tents, gas cylinders and burners are available for rent on site. You can leave some of your clothing or unnecessary equipment in our depository in Stepantsminda.

 

The Kazbek expedition program may change due to weather changes. Our experienced guides, who have made several dozen ascents to the peak, will ensure the safety of the group. They will also decide whether to interrupt the attack in the event of deteriorating weather. We do not guarantee reaching the summit, but we guarantee that we will do everything possible to ensure the safety of participants.

 

Minimum number of participants – 3 people. All participants are obliged to purchase individual insurance for extreme sports (we have contacts to an agency in Poland for appropriate insurance). All participants are obliged to inform about chronic or other diseases that may affect the course of the expedition. Due to the risk of bad weather conditions in the mountains, it is possible to extend the mountain activity by additional days.

 

It is also possible to extend the trip after the mountain activity in order to organize optional trips to other regions of Georgia. We can also take care of and organize stays for people or part of a group that is not participating in a mountain expedition – accommodation, trips to neighboring regions. Hiking equipment, ice axes, crampons, helmets, tents, gas cylinders and burners are available for rent on site. You can leave some of your clothing or unnecessary equipment in our depository in Stepantsminda.
