Expedition overview
Day 1: Kutaisi Airport – Sightseeing in Tbilisi (250 km)
- arrival in Kutaisi around noon, transfer to Tbilisi.
- check-in at a hotel in Tbilisi followed by a brief city tour: visit to the Sioni Cathedral and the Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest monastery in Tbilisi. Enjoy a cable car ride to the Narikala fortress, offering panoramic views of the city. Walk to the waterfall located in the sulfur baths district.
- dinner at a renowned Georgian restaurant with a Georgian dance show.
- return to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 2: Tbilisi – Telavi – Omalo(190 km)
- after breakfast, drive to Omalo, Tusheti
- stop in Telavi on the way: a short walk around the town; lunch in the restaurant; visit to the local bazaar; shopping for trekking
- drive through the Alazani Valley; visit to a winery for wine tasting(on request)
- arrival in Omalo, dinner and overnight at the Ardoti guesthouse
Day 3: Omalo – Pirikita – Parsma 1100m ↗ – 1350m ↘ – 20km
- after breakfast at the guesthouse, meet our local guides; packing luggage for horses
- jeep trip a few kilometers beyond of Omalo – one of the most spectacular routes of Tusheti (20 km), leading through the Pirikita mountain range, which separates the largest valleys in the region – Pirikiti and Gometsari Alazani
- overnight and dinner in Parsma (accommodation in guesthouse or tents)
Day 4: Parsma – Kvakhidi 650m ↗ – 230m ↘ – 14km
- after breakfast, trekking (approx. 10 km) to the Kvakhidi meadows (approx. 2600 m above sea level), located in front of the Atsunta Pass
- dinner and overnight in tents
Day 5: Kvakhidi – Khidotani 800m ↗ – 1000m ↘ – 16km
- after breakfast in the bosom of nature, start 16-kilometer trekking (the route is full of challenges – temperature changes)
- crossing the Atsunta Pass (3431 m above sea level), which is the natural border between Tusheti and Khevsureti
- crossing the Khidotani ridge (approx. 2800 m above sea level)
- stop at a campsite with a beautiful view of Mount Tebulo
- dinner and overnight in tents (or in guesthouse)
Day 6: Khidotani – Mutso – Shatili 600m ↘ – 8km
- after breakfast in the bosom of nature, depart towards the medieval fortress Mutso with stone defensive towers located on a rocky hill (1800 m above sea level)
- drive by off-road vehicles from Mutso to Shatili – visiting the medieval complex of defensive towers and stone houses, the history of which dates back to the 7th century.
- accommodation, free time, dinner and overnight stay
Day 7: Shatili – Mtskheta – Uplistsikhe – Kutaisi(150 km)
- after breakfast, time to pack your things and drive towards the Zhinvali water reservoir through the Datvis Jvari Pass (2689 m above sea level)
- visiting the surroundings of Tbilisi – the Jvari monastery located on the top of a hill, and then the city of Mtskheta, which until the 5th century AD served as the capital, visiting the legendary temple of Svetitskhoveli, the place of coronation and final resting place of the rulers of Georgia
- along the way, visiting Uplistsikhe, the oldest rock city in Georgia, where the settlement dates back to the second millennium BC.
- arrive in Kutaisi, the old capital of Colchis, dinner and overnight stay at the hotel
Day 8: Transfer to the airport
- after breakfast transfer to the airport

- Mutso – according to legend, never conquered, currently an abandoned medieval defensive complex on the border with Chechnya.
- Anatori – a crypt with human remains preserved to this day according to legend.
- Uplistsikhe – the oldest rock city in Georgia, where the first traces of settlement date back to 2,000 BCE. It was one of the most important trading points on the Silk Road.
- Kutaisi – the third-largest city in Georgia, known from mythology for the story of the Argonauts and the quest for the Golden Fleece. It is the capital of the Imereti region with a charming old town and the majestic Bagrati Cathedral, built in 1003, towering over the city.
- Mtskheta – the first capital of Georgia listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Georgia adopted Christianity (326 AD), often called “Little Jerusalem” with the majestic Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Jvari Monastery – built in the 6th century, offering a beautiful view of Mtskheta and the intersecting rivers Mtkvari (Kura) and Aragvi.
