Program

Day 0:

  • Flight to Tbilisi in the late evening hours

Day 1: Tbilisi airport – Mtskheta – Tbilisi city tour  

  • Arrival at the Tbilisi international airport, hotel accommodation, time to rest, breakfast
  • Mtskheta city tour – the capital of Georgia until the 5th century and Svetitskhoveli cathedral  – the place of coronation and burial of Georgian kings 
  • Lunch and return to Tbilisi
  • Tbilisi city tour – explore the old town, Sioni Cathedral and Anchiskhati Basilica, ride cable car to the Narikala fortress where is a wonderful panoramic view of the city, walk to the waterfall located in the city center, in the district of sulphur baths. 
  • Dinner in a famous restaurant, combined with a show of traditional Georgian dances
  • Return to the hotel

Day 2: Tbilisi – David Gareja – Bodbe – Sighnaghi

  • after breakfast, drive to the steppe in the south of the country and visit the complex of David Gareja rock monasteries, carved in the 6th century right on the border with Azerbaijan
  • Lunch break in Udabno serving Svan specialties 
  • Transfer to Sighnaghi – a town with a 2.5-kilometer defensive wall, known for the oldest wine festival in Georgia, and on the way visiting the Bodbe Monastery – the burial place of St. Nino, who converted Georgia to Christianity
  • Accommodation and dinner in Signagi 

Day 3: Sighnaghi – Wine tour – Gremi – Supra – Sighnaghi

  • after breakfast, departure to Alazani Valley with a stop at the local market in Gurdżaani 
  • Visit to the vineyard and museum in Numisi, Kindzmarauli wine factory, Khareba winery – tunnel converted into a wine warehouse 
  • Next stop is Gremi fortress, which was the capital of the kingdom of Kakheti until the 16th century. Beautiful view over the Alazani Valley 
  • Supra – a traditional Georgian feast at a friendly farmers house on a vineyard, wine degustation and local food tasting, Georgian cuisine workshops (baking bread, making churchkhela or khinkali) with traditional live music
  • Return to Sighnaghi

Day 4: Sighnaghi – Ananuri – Stepantsminda

  • After breakfast departure from Kakheti towards the famous Georgian Military Road, connecting Tbilisi with Vladikavkaz
  • On the way visiting the Ananuri fortress from the 17th century, located by the Zhinvali water reservoir
  • Optional rafting on the Aragvi River combined with a picnic by the river  
  • Photo stop at the Jvari Pass (2379 m)
  • Accommodation in Stepantsminda (formerly Kazbegi), free time, dinner and overnight

Day 5: stepantsminda – Truso Valley – Gergeti Holy Trinity – Stepantsminda

  • After breakfast, all day off-road to the Truso Valley, known for its mineral springs, lakes, medieval defensive towers, the Abano monastery and the Zakagori fortress 
  • A walk in the valley, tasting the mineral waters and an outdoor picnic with local shepherds and baking skewers
  • In the afternoon, drive to one of the most beautifully situated monasteries in Georgia – Gergeti Holy Trinity, which lies at an altitude of 2200 m above sea level, at the foot of Mount Kazbek (5033 m)
  • Return to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), free time, dinner and overnight

Day 6: Stepantsminda – Gori – Uplistsikhe – Borjomi – Akhaltsikhe

  • After breakfast, departure towards Gori, a short stop at the Stalin museum, where there is the house the commander was born and the wagon in which he travelled 
  • Visiting Uplistsikhe, the oldest cave city in Georgia, dates back to the second millennium BC.
  • Lunch break
  • Transfer to Borjomi and a walk through the beautiful park with numerous medical waters 
  • Optional ride cable car  to the viewpoint
  • Transfer to Akhaltsikhe, dinner and overnight

Day 7: Akhaltsikhe – Rabati – Vardzia – Tbilisi

  • After breakfast, visit to Rabati fortress – the biggest Georgian fortress
  • Visit the monumental cave city of Vardzia, founded in the times of Queen Tamar (12th-13th centuries), which in its hey-day could accommodate up to 50,000 residents.
  • Stop at the Khertvisi fortress, the construction of which began in the 2nd century BCE
  • Optional return to Tbilisi through the Javakheti volcanic plateau
  • Check-in at the hotel in Tbilisi, walk around the old town and free time
  • Dinner at the restaurant and overnight in the hotel

Day 8: Transfer to the airport

  • Transfer to the airport
